"Flamingos" by Parimala D/O Sivaraj
Starting with watching videos of flamingos taking flight, I sought to recreate the impression of a bird taking flight in my sculpture. The angularity of the planes of the sculpture echo that of wings of the flamingo, as it changes from one second to the next. My drawings explored the ways in which the varying forms and angles of the wings can be superimposed onto each other to and connected in order to give a unified form that represents the motion of flight. The solid mass of the sculpture stands in contrast to the way the sculpture floats on the base by merely resting on its tip.
