“The RocKat Chair” by Alvin Chan Zhi Liang
The Rockat Chair is used as a conventional chair. For the person, it serves as a chair which rocks, allowing relaxation while performing other activities on the chair. (surfing the net, watching television, etc.) For the cat, the underside serves as a interactive space where the cat is allowed to play around this maze-like arrangement. These plastic strips are bendable, not too rigid and allows the cat the move in and around the chair. The center portion is left empty as a resting place for the cat. It is chosen for it is the place where there is minimum rocking disturbance, allowing the cat to rest properly. An added access is provided for the cat, to move upwards towards her owner. To 'tell' her owner that she is looking for attention and intends to 'hang out’ with you. The Rockat Chair is eventually a common space where there is a merging of common activities, where both the pet and user can enjoy. Achieving each of their individual purposes, while having fun with one another!
